Senior SRE at Money Forward Business Company in Tokyo, Japan

Money Forward's mission is to propel individuals forward in their lives by providing a range of SaaS applications designed to simplify back-office tasks and liberate people from unnecessary complexities in their daily routines. This transformation not only enhances the quality of work but also reduces the time spent on it.

In our current recruitment efforts for the Money Forward business division, we manage the Money Forward Cloud, a SaaS solution that contributes to over 60% of the Money Forward Group's revenue. This platform seamlessly integrates diverse back-office data and automates tasks, streamlining and optimizing the intricate processes associated with financial, accounting, and human resources operations. Our portfolio includes a comprehensive array of more than 30 services to cater to various needs.

The MFBC-CTO Team, which we are currently in the process of hiring for, has the primary objective of optimizing the performance of more than 30 back-office SaaS services within the Money Forward Cloud. Our organization boasts a diverse product portfolio, consisting of both nascent startups and well-established offerings that have exhibited substantial growth over the years.

Our immediate focus is on recruiting individuals for the role of SREs (Site Reliability Engineers) who possess the capability to proactively identify potential factors that might impact the stability of our services. We seek experts in ensuring availability and scalability. Over the long term, our aim is to develop a product team with the capacity to deliver value to users by maintaining the production environment securely, even for those who may not be familiar with the concept of SRE. Therefore, we are initially seeking team members who can commit to upholding system availability and scalability while championing the core principles of SRE.

Creating an Environment for SRE Commitment to Service Stability and Scalability:

  • In situations where service operation stability is compromised or when there's a surge in load, the Senior SRE will take a proactive approach by engaging in close collaboration with the product team.
  • They will be hands-on in resolving issues within their domain while fostering seamless coordination with the product team.
  • Additionally, they will play a pivotal role in ensuring reliability through the visualization of SLOs (Service Level Objectives) and SLIs (Service Level Indicators), as well as managing on-call rotations.

Building the Foundation for Integrating SRE with Product Teams:

  • As part of the Enabling SRE concept, your role will involve tight integration with product teams.
  • You'll actively advocate for SRE principles within the team, tackling challenges that may arise within the team or in product development.
  • Furthermore, you'll be open to exploring potential organizational adjustments and liaising with other departments as needed to facilitate the adoption of SRE practices within product teams.

Technical Support:

  • In a phased approach, you will introduce technical elements to product teams, leveraging the service reliability hierarchy as a framework for improvement initiatives.
  • Although Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and infrastructure aspects fall under the purview of Platform SREs, it's imperative for Senior SREs to possess knowledge in these areas, as product-related modifications will inevitably transpire. This ensures a holistic understanding and effective collaboration between the Senior SRE and the broader development ecosystem.
