CTO (Chief Technology Officer) - Mercari in Tokyo, Japan

At Mercari, we are actively exploring new business ventures to establish a robust revenue foundation that will underpin our forthcoming expansion. Presently, we are engaged in product development within the HR and recommerce domains. In this role, the key responsibilities involve assuming leadership in shaping technical strategies and spearheading the technical achievements of our business.

Specific work responsibilities include the following:

The role encompasses:

  • Devising and implementing technical strategies for our new business ventures.
  • Creating a mid- to long-term technical roadmap to guide the product's direction.
  • Selecting and designing architecture strategies and technologies for the short to mid-term, along with promoting their development.
  • Fostering collaboration in development among Mercari Group companies and external counterparts.
  • Developing and executing strategies required for expanding our organization, including recruitment and training.
  • Spearheading initiatives to enhance the development environment.

In this position, you will have the chance to shape technical strategies by working in coordination with leadership and collaborating with the diverse and skilled team members within Mercari Group. You will lead the advancement of our products by exploring new technologies and harnessing the existing technological resources and tools within the Mercari Group.

This role is an exciting opportunity that involves the exploration of fresh technologies and innovations, enabling the development of influential technical strategies that will help Mercari Group maintain its competitive edge.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • A shared belief in the mission and values of the Mercari Group and its associated companies.
  • A substantial and comprehensive background as a software engineer.
  • Previous experience in the development of large-scale B2C or C2C services, or similar fields.
  • A fervent commitment to articulating the technical roadmap and their own vision both internally and externally.
  • Proven experience leading organizations undergoing rapid change or growth, ideally in a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) capacity.
  • A profound interest in converging technology and business and the ability to spearhead such efforts.
  • Exceptional talent management skills, including a track record of leading diverse, large-scale organizations.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly the ability to convey technical concepts to individuals in non-technical roles.

Employment Status

Full-time

The probationary period at our company lasts for the initial three months after joining. During this probationary period, your contract conditions will be identical to those of a permanent employee.
