It's great to hear that your organization conducts System Design Interviews that focus on comprehensive abilities rather than just technical knowledge. This approach can be valuable in evaluating a candidate's problem-solving skills, thought processes, and communication abilities, which are crucial for success in complex and collaborative technical roles. It can also help identify candidates who are capable of taking a holistic approach to system design and finding effective solutions. If you have any specific questions or need assistance with conducting such interviews, feel free to ask for guidance.
Specifically, check the following points.
- How to communicate with the interviewer.
- If you have any questions about system requirements, ask questions and check whether you can understand them correctly.
- How to approach solving problems for which there is no correct answer.
- How to consider scalability and availability.
- How to make decisions when there are trade-offs in problem solving.
- What thought process do you go through to improve your ideas?
- Are you aware of system problems and improvements?
- English: Independent (CEFR - B2) welcome.
- Japanese: Proficient (CEFR - C1) Required

Circulate all forms of value to unleash the potential in all people
"How can I contribute to society's prosperity given our limited resources?" This question served as the inspiration for the creation of the Mercari marketplace app in 2013 by our founder, Shintaro Yamada, during his travels around the world. We firmly believe that by facilitating the circulation of various forms of value, extending beyond physical items and money, we can open doors for individuals to pursue their aspirations and make positive contributions to society and those in their proximity. Mercari is committed to leveraging technology to connect people across the globe, ultimately striving to build a world where everyone can unlock their full potential. Equal Opportunity Hiring
At Mercari, our mission is to build a world where no one's potential is constrained by their background, and where everyone has the liberty to generate value. We strongly emphasize that fostering a culture of Diversity & Inclusion is integral to realizing our mission.
This principle naturally extends to our hiring procedures. Mercari is dedicated to eradicating discrimination based on attributes such as age, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, physical abilities, and other similar factors.
