Product Manager - Mercari/Recommerce area new business in Tokyo, Japan
<Recommerce team's mission>
At Mercari, we are gearing up to introduce a new endeavor, which is a novel undertaking aligned with our group's mission of "unleashing the value of all things and enhancing everyone's potential."
The new business team's objective is to assist primary distribution enterprises in establishing a Resale Service platform and establishing a framework for rechanneling Japan's extensive 43.7 trillion yen worth of "untapped assets." This endeavor seeks to tap into Japan's current 3 trillion yen reuse market and foster its growth.
To be more precise, this initiative blurs the boundaries between online and offline, primary and secondary distribution, and aims to make the concept of reusing goods more accessible and widespread. It marks Mercari's first venture in the to-B (business-to-business) sector and holds considerable potential for success.

As we kickstart this new business team with a select group of highly skilled individuals, the expectation is to assume cross-functional roles to pave the way for the business launch. Despite the formidable nature of leveraging Mercari's vast assets, being Japan's largest flea market app, the challenge is substantial. However, the potential impact is immense if we achieve success.
Individuals who can align with the mission and values of the Mercari Group and its affiliated companies should possess the following qualifications:
- A track record of 3+ years in product management, dealing with internet and smartphone products or similar experiences.
- The capacity to formulate compelling value propositions for products, showcasing strong planning skills.
- Proficiency in leadership and communication, enabling the engagement of individuals in their vicinity.
Candidates sought for these positions should ideally have the following qualifications:
- A background in product management specific to the e-commerce (EC) field.
- A proven track record of successfully launching new products.
- Extensive experience in product development involving various stakeholders, including in-house business development, legal teams, and partner companies.
- The ability to design product specifications with scalability in mind, particularly when initiating products from the ground up (0 to 1).
- Proficiency in creatively addressing multiple challenges and requirements through innovative, lateral thinking solutions.
- Do you resonate with the Mercari Group's mission and values?
- Are you proactive, adaptable, and able to work at a swift pace?
- Do you exhibit a strong sense of responsibility and consistently give your utmost effort to your work?
- Can you thrive in ambiguous and uncertain situations, focusing on "how it can be done" rather than "why it can't be done"?

Circulate all forms of value to unleash the potential in all people
"How can I contribute to society's prosperity given our limited resources?" This question served as the inspiration for the creation of the Mercari marketplace app in 2013 by our founder, Shintaro Yamada, during his travels around the world. We firmly believe that by facilitating the circulation of various forms of value, extending beyond physical items and money, we can open doors for individuals to pursue their aspirations and make positive contributions to society and those in their proximity. Mercari is committed to leveraging technology to connect people across the globe, ultimately striving to build a world where everyone can unlock their full potential.
