Product Manager - Mercari/Marketplace in Tokyo, Japan

Through the Mercari marketplace app, we embrace audacious endeavors to fulfill our mission of establishing value in a global marketplace that facilitates buying and selling for everyone.

The world is abundant with goods and services, yet a substantial portion of these resources go to waste without individuals recognizing their potential value to others. This leads to the squandering of valuable natural resources. Our objective is to mitigate this waste by inspiring a broad user base to utilize Mercari. The platform offers a safe and convenient avenue for individuals to exchange items they no longer require, thereby contributing to the reduction of waste. (Learn more about Mercari’s mission and values here.)

In this context, the role of a Product Manager necessitates more than just engineering expertise; it demands the capacity to discern intriguing "seeds" within emerging trends and user demands and facilitate their nurturing and flourishing. Furthermore, individuals in this position must collaborate closely with marketing professionals to conceive and nurture products effectively.

Specific work responsibilities include the following:

  • Identify fresh opportunities to enhance our customers' Lifetime Value (LTV), devise a strategic roadmap, and recommend strategies for introducing new features and experiments.

  • Shoulder accountability for the product development workflow and steer the product team through the development cycle.

Please note that the precise scope of these responsibilities may vary slightly depending on the specific team you are assigned to within the organization.

We collaborate in our pursuit of building a global marketplace, recognizing that the path to this ambitious goal is fraught with challenges. To tackle these distinctive hurdles and foster groundbreaking innovation, every team member takes ownership of their role and leverages their expertise to empower the team in crafting the finest product possible. Our endeavors align with Mercari's core values: Go Bold, All for One, and Be a Pro.

The Mercari marketplace app boasts millions of downloads, with each user customizing their experience in unique ways. As we continue to expand, our commitment to enhancing the user experience drives us to embrace fresh challenges continually.

Circulate all forms of value to unleash the potential in all people

"How can I contribute to society's prosperity given our limited resources?" This question served as the inspiration for the creation of the Mercari marketplace app in 2013 by our founder, Shintaro Yamada, during his travels around the world. We firmly believe that by facilitating the circulation of various forms of value, extending beyond physical items and money, we can open doors for individuals to pursue their aspirations and make positive contributions to society and those in their proximity. Mercari is committed to leveraging technology to connect people across the globe, ultimately striving to build a world where everyone can unlock their full potential. Equal Opportunity Hiring

At Mercari, our mission is to build a world where no one's potential is constrained by their background, and where everyone has the liberty to generate value. We strongly emphasize that fostering a culture of Diversity & Inclusion is integral to realizing our mission.

This principle naturally extends to our hiring procedures. Mercari is dedicated to eradicating discrimination based on attributes such as age, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, physical abilities, and other similar factors. Our objective is to ensure that individuals who resonate with our mission and values can become part of our team, regardless of their personal backgrounds.
