(Learn more about Mercari's mission and values here.)

Specific work responsibilities include the following:

  • Continuously oversee, enhance, and refine tagging strategies within the cloud environment.
  • Devise approaches and plans to enhance cloud utilization and efficiently restructure existing technology in collaboration with development teams.
  • Harness automation and scripting to democratize the delivery of valuable alerts, insights, anomalies, and other resources for managing and optimizing our cloud expenditures.
  • Advocate for a cost-conscious mindset and organize knowledge-sharing sessions to disseminate best practices throughout the organization.

Mercari's FinOps team holds a significant responsibility in the realm of enhancing cloud expenditure efficiency and augmenting business adaptability. We create a platform that empowers our organization to make decisions rooted in data, thereby creating the highest possible business value. Given that the cloud infrastructure serves not just Mercari JP but also Merpay, Mercari US, and other affiliated companies within the group, any enhancements made can have a far-reaching impact on the overall organizational performance.

  • A collective alignment and commitment to our company's mission and values.
  • Proficiency in infrastructure management, as well as automation and scripting.
  • Demonstrated capability in composing design documents and proposals and achieving consensus with stakeholders.
  • Experience with the implementation of container management platforms (such as Kubernetes) in production environments.

  • Possession of a FinOps certification.
  • Certification from a public cloud provider.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and comprehension of public cloud pricing structures.
  • Understanding of financial and accounting principles.
  • Practical experience with third-party cloud cost management tools.
  • Track record of involvement in public cloud cost management projects within a sizable organization.
  • Mercari's interview process revolves around assessing three core aspects: your enthusiasm for Mercari's mission, your alignment with our values, and your cultural compatibility. We place significant importance on a shared belief in both Mercari's and Merpay's missions and the ability to embody our values in pursuit of those missions.
  • During the interviews, we will delve into your past experiences to gauge whether Mercari is the right platform for you to showcase your skills. Articulating how you can apply your past experiences at Mercari and the opportunities available to challenge yourself will facilitate mutual understanding of whether the position aligns with your aspirations. We recommend discussing these points during your interviews.
  • To assist in this process, we encourage the use of the STAR method—an interview technique that enables you to provide detailed insights into your past actions. Our aim is to gain a comprehensive understanding of your experiences and capabilities by posing interview questions that revolve around specific situations, tasks, actions, and results. This approach aids in making well-informed assessments and decisions throughout the interview process.

Circulate all forms of value to unleash the potential in all people

"How can I contribute to society's prosperity given our limited resources?" This question served as the inspiration for the creation of the Mercari marketplace app in 2013 by our founder, Shintaro Yamada, during his travels around the world. We firmly believe that by facilitating the circulation of various forms of value, extending beyond physical items and money, we can open doors for individuals to pursue their aspirations and make positive contributions to society and those in their proximity. Mercari is committed to leveraging technology to connect people across the globe, ultimately striving to build a world where everyone can unlock their full potential. For more details on Mercari Group's mission, please refer to Mercari's Culture Doc.

Equal Opportunity Hiring

At Mercari, our mission is to build a world where no one's potential is constrained by their background, and where everyone has the liberty to generate value. We strongly emphasize that fostering a culture of Diversity & Inclusion is integral to realizing our mission.

This principle naturally extends to our hiring procedures. Mercari is dedicated to eradicating discrimination based on attributes such as age, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, physical abilities, and other similar factors. Our objective is to ensure that individuals who resonate with our mission and values can become part of our team, regardless of their personal backgrounds.
